Culinary competition for young DOMINO talents

The HRC Culinary Academy and the Bulgarian-Swiss Project DOMINO for dual education are looking for the best young culinary talents from the vocational high schools in Bulgaria. The Contest “I am the best chef ever” provides the opportunity to identify the most ambitious and talented students among all of those young talents who are already studying for cooks.

The competition targets the students who are already enrolled and studying culinary in the DOMINO dual classes in the vocational schools in the towns of Dobrich, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Pernik and Sandanski. For two years, DOMINO has a total of 172 students participating in culinary education, with most of them practicing and already cooking in prestigious restaurants.

By May 1, the students have to deliver a short video of up to 3 minutes on the topic “Tasty, Healthy and Beautiful” where to present or talk about interesting recipes for different meals, their views regarding author’s menus and cuisine or even sharing a concept of their own restaurant.

The jury from HRC Academy and the DOMINO Project will nominate the ten finalists by May 10th. In the period May 10th – May 25th an online voting in the social media channels of the Academy and the DOMINO will determine the eleventh finalist.

The final will be a culinary race and a real cooking on June 1 in the HRC kitchen, where the Academy`s chefs and the DOMINO team leader will determine the best three in the “I am the best chef ever” competition.

The prize for the winner is a scholarship for education at the HRC Culinary Academy worth € 2,000. Those awarded with second and third place will receive scholarships of € 1 000 and € 500 for education in different programs of their choice.

The awards are provided by the HRC Academy, one of the most prestigious culinary schools in Bulgaria and the region.

The first edition of the contest “I cook the best” took place in 2017. The winner – Desislava Kirilova from St. Ivan Rilski Vocational School of Tourism and Fashion in Pernik, will take a one-week course “Introduction to Culinary Arts” in July at the Swiss Culinary Academy on the Lake of Geneva in Switzerland.

 DOMINO project:

The DOMINO project supports the introduction of dual education in Bulgaria. It is implemented with the financial support of the Bulgarian-Swiss cooperation program. 1,114 students in 32 schools across the country are trained under the system “learning by doing” and 170 leading Bulgarian and foreign companies are partners in the project, providing students with a practice, giving them the chance to acquire specific professional skills in real work environment and to earn some money as well.
